08:26 pm: Many different articles on this topic, but apparently, an FDA panel has voted to recommend new restrictions on tylenol and tylenol containing products like Vicodin and Percocet : One article here

Well, now the folks who OD on vicodin and percocet will just have to worry about the not breathing/opioid overdose side of it as opposed to the liver damage tylenol side of it.

09:33 am: Scharffen-Berger Chocolates closing in Berkeley
Well, I guess it's not too surprising, but Hersheys is shutting down the San Francisco and Berkeley plants for Scharffen-Berger and Joseph Schmidt, and moving all production to one of the bigger Hersheys plants in Robinson, Ill. The local employees are all getting the boot.

01:38 pm: AmberconNW
Hi! I know I haven't posted in a while. Will post more about our trip when I have more time.
In the meantime - here is a picture of us at Ambercon that [info]simonepdx posted to facebook. I have my eyes shut, but Owen looks cute as usual.

If anyone has Ambercon photos of Owen (since we forgot our camera), especially of the Obie awards when he was grabbing his award (precocious little guy), can you let me know? I'd love to have some.

02:01 pm: SIDS and fans
Apparently, having a fan on in a room decreases the risk of SIDS significantly (72%), esp if the temp is above 69F in the room. How's the evidence? It's as good as the pacifier evidence, since I think that came from the same data set. Caveat, I haven't seen the orignal article yet.

08:12 am: Woo Hoo Olympics!
Singapore hasn't won an Olympic medal since 1960. But they just advanced to the women's team final against China in Table Tennis! AWESOME.  They beat South Korea 3-2 last night.
I am so excited. I love table tennis! 48 years without a medal!

09:13 am: Beijing Food
When I first went to Beijing many years ago, there were virtually no restaurants and the food was truly dire. On a recent trip with [info]evilmagnus I barely recognized the place. The hordes of bicycles were gone, replaced by insane traffic. The air is definitely worse than before. There are shops of all kinds all over the place including western chains like Starbucks. There are a lot more big new buildings and a lot less hutongs. But there are so, so very many more restaurants.

CNN has an article today about dining in Beijing, and the editor of Beijing Food and Wine magazine recommends a restaurant we went to, Dadong Duck Restaurant. I fully agree. That was the tastiest meal I had in Beijing, and one of the nicest I've ever had. And very cheap too!
